The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has disbursed Rs341 million to 476 victims of the Bankers City Housing Scheme scam, bringing the total recovered amount in this two-decade-old case to Rs1.209 billion — more than two and a half times the original investments. The disbursement ceremony was held in Islamabad and Rawalpindi under the supervision of NAB Chairman Lt Gen (retd) Nazir Ahmed. Land valued at Rs25.079 billion and 640 kanal and 11 marla of property have also been transferred to NAB for future victim compensation.

Bankers City Scam: Longstanding Fraud Uncovered in 2006, Formal Investigation Launched in 2007

The Bankers City Housing Scheme scam first surfaced publicly in 2006, prompting a formal NAB investigation in 2007 after numerous complaints. Though registered with SECP in 2003 and claiming ownership of 14,000 kanals across Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and Haripur, investigations revealed the land was neither approved nor consolidated. Misleading advertisements and forged documentation were used to collect funds from hundreds of investors, while no plots were ever delivered.
